Forum group hosts Smiddy on Monday

The Rock River Open Forum is pleased to invite you to converse with state Rep. Mike Smiddy at 6 p.m. Monday at the Rock Falls Public Library.

Winning the election in 2012, Mike represents all of Whiteside County. He spoke with the Open Forum during his successful campaign on Sept. 6 at the Sterling Public Library. The community room was filled to capacity, and a large majority was impressed with Mike’s ability to respond to questions, his stand on critical issues, his listening ability, and his openness.

He indicated that he would work for economic development, workers’ rights, sound fiscal policies, fair treatment of veterans, a healthy environment, and the best education possible for our children. We are interested in learning of his progress on these issues, as well as others not mentioned, such as pensions, fracking, and same-sex marriage.

We are also interested in hearing his impression of Springfield, successes and disappointments. Mike can be reached easily at 309-848-9098 or by email at Repsmiddy@gmail.com.

Rock Falls is considering a ban on leaf burning. Should the city finally take that step?
Yes. Sterling and Dixon have had bans for years. It’s time for Rock Falls to impose a ban.
No. It would be too great a burden for homeowners to dispose of fallen leaves in other ways.
