Anselmo 'Sam' Torres

AURORA – Anselmo “Sam” Torres, 80, formerly of Rock Falls, died Sunday, June 16, 2013.

He was born April 21, 1933, in Cheneyville, La., the son of Emilio and Maria Isabel (Sauceda) Torres. He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the Army. He married Trinidad Rodriguez on May 11, 1959, in Morrison. Sam was employed by Northwestern Steel and Wire Co. in Sterling for 34 years, retiring as a piler recorder in 1989.

Surviving are his wife, Trinidad; two daughters, Lynda Lou Ramirez and Deborah Ann Torres, both of Aurora; two sisters, Josie Engeldinger of Addison and Dee (Alex) Rios of Sterling; three brothers, Tony Torres Sr. of Rock Falls, Raymond (Caroline) Torres Sr. of Sterling, and Robert (Pam) Torres of Freeport; three grandchildren, Felicia Ramirez Ibarra, Elisha Torres, and Elijah Torres; and four great-grandchildren, Mauricio Garcia, Abrianna Ibarra, Connie Ibarra, and Isaac Ibarra.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, James; three sisters: Felipa, Mary and Amada; and one stepson, Eloy Zuniga.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and 9 to 9:45 a.m. Wednesday at McDonald Funeral Home, 1002 12th Ave., Rock Falls. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be at Calvary Cemetery in Sterling.
