DIXON – A 25-year-old woman was in critical condition with life-threatening head injuries Sunday after being dragged and run over by a car Saturday evening in the 100 block of East Seventh St., police said.

Keith J. Shomaker, 19, of Dixon, is charged with leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, a felony.

Police responding to a 911 call found Kimberly A. Landwer unconscious and face down in the outside, eastbound lane in front of Hometown Pantry, 110 E. Seventh St., Sgt. Troy Morse said.

Shomaker, Landwer and an unidentified 23-year-old Dixon man were in the car in the store's parking lot; an argument ensued and Landwer and the man got out of the car, Morse said.

Landwer was outside leaning into the front passenger-side window when Shomaker drove off; she lost her grip and fell, striking her head on the road, which caused her most serious injuries, Morse said.

She ended up under the car, which ran over her torso, he added.

Landwer was taken to KSB Hospital then to OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, where she is in critical condition.

Shomaker was arrested Saturday when he came to the Dixon Police Department to discuss the incident. He also had an outstanding arrest warrant for criminal damage to property and a separate complaint for misdemeanor theft.

He is suspected of breaking a car's windshield in the 1100 block of West Sixth St. on Jan.16, and of stealing a Playstation game system from an acquaintance earlier this month, Morse said.

Shomaker also was charged with burglary in January.
