Many activities planned for celebration

TAMPICO – It’s a great weekend for a parade in Tampico.

The Tampico Homecoming Days parade kicks off at 1 p.m. Sunday, marching out the 4-day event with style.

The parade begins at Tampico Middle School, 304 E. Kimball St. Entrants will be eligible for a total of $900 of prizes in 10 categories.

Here’s a look at this weekend’s Tampico Homecoming Days schedule:

n 50/50 raffle for Tampico Historic Preservation District Committee

n Birthplace tours

n Museum will be open


n 6:30 p.m.: Family Game Night at Community Building, 106 W. Market St. Free and open to all ages; prizes and refreshments.


n 5 p.m. to midnight: Beer garden opens; music by The Funnies from 8 p.m. to midnight

n 4 to 8 p.m.: Lions Club Fish Fry; south side of the beer garden


n 9 a.m.: Fishing derby at the Star Road (state Route 172) canal crossing; prizes for children.

n 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.: Co-ed mud volleyball tourney at the beer garden

n 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.: Bake sale for Tampico Historic Preservation District Committee; Dutch Diner Building on Main Street.

n 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.: Kids Day in the Park, at Booth Park; events for all ages; daylong event bracelets are $3 for children and $10 for a family of four:

There are events for all ages. Daylong Event Bracelets are $3 a child or $10 for a family of four. Each Award event has a $1 fee.

n 9 to 11 a.m.: Sidewalk Chalk Art; $1 fee

n 11 a.m.: Bike races; $1 fee

n 1 p.m.: Lunch in the Park; free sandwiches and chips for the kids

n 2 to 4 p.m.: “Carnival” games; ring toss, balloon pop, and more

n 4 p.m. Pie eating contest; $1 fee

n 10 a.m. : Midnight beer tent opens

n 11 a.m.: Men’s fast pitch tournament at the ball diamond (11 a.m.: BAC vs. Stockton; 12:30 p.m.: BAC vs. QC Titans; 2 p.m.: Stockton vs. QC Titans; 4 p.m.: Bowen vs. Jacksonville; 5:30 p.m.: Jacksonville vs. BAC; 7 p.m.: Bowen vs. BAC

n 4 to 8 p.m. Lions Club Fish Fry; south side of the beer garden

n 8 p.m. to midnight: Beer tent music by Cal Stage


n 6:45 a.m.: Dutch Dash 5K walk/run starting from Booth Park; register and shirt pick-up from 6:45 to 7:45 a.m.; race starts at 8 a.m.; register online at or pick up a form at various Tampico locations.

n 7 a.m. to noon: Firemen’s Pancake Breakfast at the Tampico Fire Station

n 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.: Craft and Vendor Show at Reagan Park, Main Street

n 11 a.m.: Men’s fast pitch tournament
 (11 a.m.: Bowen vs. QC Titans; 12:30 p.m.: Jacksonville vs. QC Titans; 2:30 p.m.: Stockton vs. Bowen; 4 p.m.: Stockton vs. Jacksonville)

n Noon to 4 p.m.: Ice cream social at The Community Building, West Market Street; sponsored by the United Methodist Church

n 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.: Parade sign-in and line-up at Tampico Middle School

n 1 p.m.: Parade begins

n 1 to 6 p.m.: Countyline Cruisers; no entry fee; cars, trucks and motorcycles welcome; parking on Main Street and the downtown area following the parade.

n 1 to 10 p.m.: Beer garden is open

n 2 p.m.: Beanbag Tourney at Kickback Saloon; entry forms available at Kickback; $20 per two-man team; 100 percent payback

n 6 to 10 p.m.: Music with DJ, Wise Guys at beer garden
