Jack M. Kelley

FRANKLIN GROVE – Jack Michael Kelley, 73, of Franklin Grove, died Friday, June 14, 2013 at KSB Hospital in Dixon.

He worked for General Telephone Electronics prior to his retirement in 1993.

Jack was born June 22, 1939 in Dixon, the son of Jack Harold and Vera (Freadhoff) Kelley. He married Carol Johnson on July 18, 1964 in Franklin Grove. He served in the Air Force from 1957 until 1962.

Jack was a member of First Baptist Church in Oregon, Franklin Grove Area Historical Society, Farming Heritage Inc., the Lincoln Highway Association and the Illinois Atlatl Association. He was a self-taught musician and played many instruments. Jack was a pilot, completing his first solo flight in 1968 and becoming a flight instructor in 1974. He received the Studs Terkel Humanities Service Award for community service in 2004.

Survivors include his wife, Carol Kelley of Franklin Grove; one daughter, Gayle (Kevin) Hendricks of Keota, Iowa; one son, John (Diana) Kelley; one sister, Rosemary Schafer Grove; and four grandchildren, Allison, Audrey, Ashley and Adeline Kelley, all of Franklin Grove; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Oregon. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. Jerry Clark officiating. Burial with full military graveside services will be provided by the combined veterans organizations at Franklin Grove Cemetery.

A memorial has been established.
