DECATUR (AP) — The coroner in Macon County says a 17-month-old boy is dead after being run over by a hit-and-run driver.

Coroner Michael Day says Zyonne Cooper died of head injuries early Thursday. The boy was hit by a vehicle when he wandered into a street just after midnight.

Police say the driver drove away.

Investigators say the 1990s four-door Ford Explorer that hit the boy may have visible front-end damage.
