Party switcher is Republican in name only

As a lifetime conservative Hispanic Republican, I applaud Mr. Eric Reyes’ conversion to the GOP. I was ready to lend support to his candidacy.

Reyes, as a Reagan conservative Republican of Hispanic heritage, is too good to be true. Alas, he’s for gay marriage. He thinks it’s the “truly conservative position.”

Doesn’t he read? Pat Brady was just pushed out as state GOP chairman for taking that very same position.

The silent majority isn’t dumb. He switched from the Democratic Party to the GOP – but he supports collective bargaining and comprehensive immigration, two very liberal issues.

Why should we dump Cheri Bustos for a Republican In Name Only (RINO)? By Reyes simply stating he’s conservative doesn’t make the Rock Island Democrat one. A conservative Republican he’s not.

Christians tolerate the drift to lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and transgenders (LGBTs). Hate the sin but respect the sinner. Sadly, the word “love,” in this context, may be misunderstood.

Non-Christians misread our resolve and zeal for souls. On matters of sex, we leave it to the privacy of the bedroom. What two consenting adults do is their business. However, the gay community is aggressively trying to lobby and influence state legislatures, indeed, the whole nation, to correct the unnatural by enacting a law.

Marriage is between a man and a woman, period. Gay marriage is an oxymoron. This being a democracy, we put it to the test of the ballot box.

We call ourselves Catholic and Christian. Gay marriage is spreading state by state. Our legislators need to know there’s a limit to all this.

Reyes is asking his family and friends to gamble with his candidacy. People’s time and money is sacred. He might as well suggest a trip to a casino, or to buy a ticket in the state lottery. The odds of him winning the congressional seat is the same.

“Let the games begin.”
