STERLING – The Kiwanis Club of Sterling is seeking recipes, old photos and fond memories of the Sauk Valley for a fundraising cookbook the club is putting together.

The cookbook not only will raise funds for the club, all of which stay in the community, but also will unite the Sterling-Dixon-Rock Falls area, said Donna Ripley, a Kiwanis member.

The club is seeking recipes of all kinds, from locally famous dishes to family favorites, as well as photos of area landmarks, such as Prince Castle, The Barrel, and other eateries or hangouts.

The club also hopes people will share memories, stories and trivia about their community or any of its well-known residents.

Submissions or questions should be directed to Ripley at 815-441-0952, 815-626-0201 or her office in the U.S. Bank building, 300 First Ave., Suite 200, in Rock Falls.

Rock Falls is considering a ban on leaf burning. Should the city finally take that step?
Yes. Sterling and Dixon have had bans for years. It’s time for Rock Falls to impose a ban.
No. It would be too great a burden for homeowners to dispose of fallen leaves in other ways.
