STERLING – Sterling police are asking residents not to leave their garage doors open or unlocked at any hour, even if they're at home.

The police are receiving reports of items taken from garages, including Trek bicycles, Finwick fishing rods, Daiwa reels, a St. Croix fishing rod, an Abu Garcia reel, various tools and gasoline containers.

Daylight burglaries and thefts are not uncommon, police said.

Anyone with information about any such burglary is asked to call the Sterling Police Department at 815-632-6640 or Whiteside County Crime Stoppers at 815-625-7867.

Crime Stoppers will pay up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest. Callers may stay anonymous.
