Board buys site near judicial center

OREGON – Ogle County has bought 501 W. Washington St., on the corner of Washington and Fifth streets near the judicial center and now home to Jackass BBQ.

Restaurant owner Andy Riegel’s lease expires July 1; the county Executive Committee agreed Tuesday to recommend Riegel be given a 2-year lease with a possible extension, county board Chairman Kim Gouker said.

The board will consider the recommendation at its meeting Tuesday.

The board voted in March to buy the property from John Spoor for $150,000. At the time, Gouker said the county had no immediate plans for the site, although “the judicial center does need parking.”

At one time, County Board members had discussed buying the property in case the need to expand the judicial center arises.

Gouker said Monday that the board also is considering buying the house between the restaurant and the judicial center.
