STERLING – “Piledrive for Parkinson’s,” a benefit for Tom Nelson and his family, will be held from noon to midnight June 22 at the Latin American Social Club, 2708 W. Lincolnway.
Tom, 32, a former Marine, was diagnosed with early-onset Parkinson’s disease in January 2012. He no longer can work. He and his wife, Dacia, 28, have eight children.
Funky Munky Wrestling will put on a show, and a deejay and Knuckle Deep will provide the music. There will be 50/50 raffles; a raffle in which first prize is a 51-inch 3-D plasma TV, second is an Android tablet, and third is a $50 Shell gas card; a silent auction that includes gift baskets, tattoos, weekend getaway packages, sports tickets and photography; a bake sale; a cakewalk; children’s activities; and a $5 taco bar.
A portion of the proceeds will go to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s research; the rest will go toward medical and living expenses for the Nelsons.
A bank account also has been established at Sterling Federal Bank.
