Firefighters in new station

Published: Wednesday, June 12, 2013 1:15 a.m. CST

COLETA – The Milledgeville Fire Department has built a new station in Coleta.

The new station, west of the village on Pilgrim Road, is replacing the existing station in the central part of the village. Firefighters started using the new station last weekend.

The new 3,920-square-foot structure has three doors, compared with the old one’s two, Milledgeville Deputy Chief Chad Adams said.

“The doors were too small. It was difficult to get trucks in and out,” he said. “The north wall in the old building was showing signs of stress.”

“Firefighters from the Coleta station used money from pancake breakfasts to pay for the interior. Volunteer labor was used for the interior,” Adams said.

An open house is planned from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the new station. Call 815-499-0590 for more information.

Rock Falls is considering a ban on leaf burning. Should the city finally take that step?
Yes. Sterling and Dixon have had bans for years. It’s time for Rock Falls to impose a ban.
No. It would be too great a burden for homeowners to dispose of fallen leaves in other ways.
