Complaint that all kids weren’t allowed to play

Published: Tuesday, June 18, 2013 1:15 a.m. CDT

We just feel that we want to voice to the people in the Sauk Valley area that the children who have played for the Al Morrison Baseball of Dixon for many years in the past were treated unfairly by the Mantle League this year.

Parents signed their kids up with Al Morrison for the Mantle League under the impression that they were going to be on the team, just like every other year for Al Morrison Baseball.

The parents were never notified that there would be a tryout date for the kids who had signed up for Mantle. They were told that they would get a call after Dixon High School league was done playing.

So in the second week of June, instead, parents received a refund check in the mail with no explanation. Until then, parents made their own calls to the board to figure out why.

The worst thing that ever happened was when Isaac Mercer retired, because it went from involving all the kids in a productive community activity to them depending on what your name is in determining whether you made the team or not.

We just think that it’s very shameful that the kids who have worked so hard throughout the years with Al Morrison Baseball have been tossed aside because they aren’t competitive enough.
