Relay For Life in Rock Falls

Published: Sunday, June 9, 2013 8:58 p.m. CST

Caregivers line the inside of the track while cancer survivors walk a lap at the Hinders Field track in Rock Falls  Saturday evening during the Whiteside County Relay For Life fundraiser. Thirty-one teams participated in the overnight event, raising more than $150,000, just shy of the $155,000 goal. The money will be given to the American Cancer Society to fund cancer research. The event not only raises money, but also celebrates survivors and remembers those who have died of cancer.

Rock Falls is considering a ban on leaf burning. Should the city finally take that step?
Yes. Sterling and Dixon have had bans for years. It’s time for Rock Falls to impose a ban.
No. It would be too great a burden for homeowners to dispose of fallen leaves in other ways.
