James A. Bingham Sr.

ROCHELLE – James Alexander Bingham Sr., 82, of Rochelle, died Saturday, June 8, 2013, at his home.

James was born Oct. 23, 1930, in Belfast, Northern Ireland, the son of Joseph Charles and Barbara Ann (Connolly) Bingham. He was drafted into the U.S. Army and worked as a mess sergeant in Italy. He married Nancy Joan Barber on Nov. 6, 1954, in Sycamore.

He co-founded Rochelle Drywall in 1957 and retired as its sole owner and operator in 2010. He was a member of Rochelle United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy; his sons, James (JoAnn) Alexander Bingham Jr., Steven J. (Deana) Bingham Sr. and Patrick (Amy) Bingham; his daughters, Joanie (Rick) Whaley, Kathy (Jim) Dutmer, Nancy L. (Randy Reynolds) Bingham; his sister, Mabel (James) Morrison of Florida; his brother, Charlie Bingham of Belfast; 17 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; six nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and -nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Sydney; his daughter, Judith Ann; and his nephew, Freddy Groen. 

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with military honors given by the Eastern Lee-Ogle Honor Guard, at Unger-Horner Funeral Home in Rochelle. The funeral is at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with Chaplain Judy Williams officiating. Burial will be at Trinity Memorial Gardens in Rochelle.
