MOUNT MORRIS – Pinecrest Community will have a pie baking contest fundraiser July 6 at the Grove Community Center, 500 Evergreen Lane.

This year’s contest will feature pies by the slice, a live pie auction, and a slide presentation of pictures celebrating the past 50 years of the Let Freedom Ring Celebration is scheduled.

Brandon Clark, a singer/songwriter from Atlanta, will perform ballads to foot-stomping songs.

There is no cost to attend this event. Pie slices will be sold for $3, add a scoop of ice cream for an extra charge; and whole pies will be auctioned off at noon to benefit the Good Samaritan Fund. The fund was established to help cover the cost of care for residents who can no longer financially do so.

Contestants are asked to bake two identical pies. The first pie will be judged, and the remaining slices will be sold at 10:30 a.m.. The second pie will be auctioned off at noon. The first-place winner receive $100, a cookbook, and ribbon.

An open house from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 535 Evergreen Lane also will take place. Free hot dogs and chips will be available from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.

Contact Amy Sikyta at asikyta@pinecrestcommunity.org or 815-734-4103, to register for the contest or more information.
