Firefighter earns scholarship

DIXON – Sauk Valley Community College student Tanner Behrends of Amboy has been awarded a $500 scholarship.

The award came from the Illinois Community College System Foundation’s Illinois Association of Fire Protection Districts Scholarship for the 2013-14 academic year.

Behrends, the son of Don and Shelley Behrends of Amboy, is a fire science major with a 3.5 GPA. The 2013 graduate of Amboy High School and volunteer firefighter, plans to become a full-time firefighter and paramedic.
