Business notebook: Froggy's plans to be hopping

ROCK FALLS – Like a tadpole, Lamb's Tap in Rock Falls is undergoing a metamorphosis.

When the bar is finished expanding, it will have a new name as well: Froggy's, said manager Shaley Lamb, daughter of owner Barb Lamb.

Barb bought the building next to Lamb's Tap, 215 W. Second St., for the expansion. It takes up three storefronts.

The bar will likely open under its new name in August, Shaley said. It will have a banquet room called the Lilly Pad.

Lamb's started serving breakfast a couple of months ago. Its slogan: "Come for the food, stay for the fun."

Butcher Block Antiques & More closing

DIXON – Butcher Block Antiques & More, 420 W. First St., is going out of business across from Kitzman's Lumber. The date of closure is yet to be determined, however, several items will be sold on sale.

The business sells antiques, collectibles, glassware, clothes, video games, Hot Wheels, cookie jars, books, records, and furniture.

Kettlebell gym open in Dixon

DIXON – Synergy Kettlebell Training has opened at 928 E. River Road and is in the middle of expanding the gym, said Connie Spencer, personal trainer and certified kettlebell instructor.

Kettlebells are cast-iron weights used to perform exercises that combine cardiovascular and strength training.

Synergy also has gyms in St. Charles and Aurora.

Extreme Image Salon to move to downtown Morrison

MORRISON – A beauty salon is moving downtown from rural Morrison and will expand its staff.

Extreme Image Salon will move from 11464 Garden Plain Road to 207 W. Main St.

Owner Erin James, 28, of Morrison, said she hopes to move the salon in the next 2 weeks. The salon, which offers haircuts, perms, color, waxings, manicures, and pedicures, has been at its current location for 8 years.

The new location will have more space. The salon employs two stylists at the current spot, but will have four stylists and two manicurists at the new store, James said.

The salon is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday and Thursday through Saturday, and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday. The hours at the future location are undetermined.

The salon will have walk-in Wednesdays, when no appointments are needed.

Peak moving to Dixon

DIXON – Peak Medical Home Care will open a satellite location at 404 N. Galena Ave., Suite L20, in Dixon.

The business serves residents in 14 counties in the Northern Illinois region with in-home care.

“After receiving calls for homemaker, CNA and nursing services from around the Dixon area, we found it a natural step for practicality and convenience to have a local office,” said Peak President Lori Gould. “Not only does it make for more efficient patient service, but it helps local people for applications, interviews and staffing, avoiding a trip to our Rockford office.”

Peak Medical Home Care has been providing home care from an hour to 24 hours a day since 1981.

Antiques store to open in Morrison

MORRISON – Old Hotel Antiques & Collectibles will open Monday at 130 E. Main St.

For 3 years, owner Don Jevne has been selling antiques from the basement of the building, which used to house his True Value Hardware store. He is expanding antique sales to include the upper level after the hardware store's move to 104 S. Genesee St., the former lumber store.

Jevne will staff the antique store with employees from the hardware store, he said.

The store's hours, which are subject to change, are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

Nana's Cafe to replace Mary's

MORRISON – Nana's Cafe will open at 619 E. Lincolnway, replacing Mary's Restaurant, said Corinne Bender, administrator of Morrison Chamber of Commerce.

Mary's closed at the end of May after about 2 years in business, Bender said.
