American Red Cross announces local awardees

STERLING – The American Red Cross of the Quad Cities Area held its annual meeting May 23 at Stoney Creek Inn and Conference Center in Moline.

The annual meeting included the elections of officers and board members and the recognition of donors and volunteers.

Blood Services Partner Awards were presented to CGH Medical Center of Sterling and Ken Cocking of the Prophetstown Lions Club.

CGH Medical Center hosts six yearly blood drives, while its Rock Falls clinic hosts four. The volunteers create personal relationships with their donors and strive to get everyone in the hospital and surrounding community to donate.

Cocking recruits both donors and volunteers, regularly exceeding his collection targets. He is an advocate in the community and has helped to recruit additional sponsors in Prophetstown. He also recruits for both blood and platelet drives.
