PROPHETSTOWN – Mable R. “Tooty” Mitchell passed away Monday, May 20, 2013.

Tooty was born Sept. 26, 1918, the daughter of Boofer and Buttercup Frary. She was raised in Prophetstown as one of five children. After graduating from Prophetstown High School, Tooty went to Vogue School of Fashion & Design in Chicago. She later came home from school and was married. She had one son, Larry D. Matthews. She worked for Frary & Sons in Prophetstown for 38 years. Tooty moved to Arizona in the 1980s. Her husband, Bill Mitchell, passed away in 1982, and she lived in Arizona for another 20 years. She moved back to Prophetstown in 1999 to be with family.  

She is survived by her daughter, Linda (John) Kennedy; daughter-in-law, Virginia Matthews; grandson, Alan (Claire) Matthews; granddaughter, Susan (Chris) Wolf; and many wonderful nieces and nephews.

Tooty was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husband, and son. 

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at McDonald Funeral Home, 46 Grove St., Prophetstown, with the Rev. Rolland Hayag of Leon United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Prophetstown.

Memorials have been established to Leon United Methodist Church and Prophetstown Main Street Association.
