Sterling Street Faire opens

STERLING – The new Sterling Street Faire will be open from 3 to 7 p.m. today and 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, the second and fourth weekends of the month, starting today, in the 300 block of West Third Street.

For $25, for-profit vendors can get a 10-by-20-foot space on a first-come, first-served basis. Nonprofits can sell for free, and admission is free to shoppers.

People can buy, sell or trade anything except firearms, fireworks, animals or other commodities prohibited by law or anything that violates trademark, trade name or copyright laws. No garden produce will be sold on Saturdays, when the nearby Twin City Farmers Market is open.

Fourth Fridays in Sterling

STERLING – Fourth Fridays: Where People and Art Collide brings art and music to a variety of downtown venues. Most events are from 6 to 8 tonight, although many places have musicians performing into the night.

This month, Bohemian Gypsy Maria Micaella Sotelo will give psychic readings at Air Play Sports, and Woodlawn Dance Academy students will be kickin' it on the sidewalk on First Avenue.

Mayfest in Mount Carroll

MOUNT CARROLL – The annual Memorial Day weekend celebration, Mayfest, returns today and Saturday to Mount Carroll with The Fast Clydes, Bruce Kort & The Infarctions, The Legends, Hi Infidelity and other bands; open mic performers; a juried art show, a craft show, the Mayfest Bike Tour, a 5K walk/run, kids' entertainment, a classic car show, a wine and beer garden, food and more, at the Campbell Center.

At the Midway

STERLING – The Midway Drive-In and Diner, midway between Sterling and Dixon, will show an unprecedented double feature of two first-run movies, “Fast and Furious 6” (PG 13) starring Vin Diesel and “Hangover 3” (R), the epic finale to the trilogy, tonight and Saturday.

Admission is $8 for adults and $4 for ages 3 to 11. Gates open at 7 p.m. The first show starts at 8 p.m., and there’s a diner on site.

Cruise-in at the VFW

OREGON – Oregon VFW Post 8739, 1310 W. Washington St., is holding a car cruise-in from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. (Not the weekend, OK, but still sure to be fun.)

Music will be provided by 3D Sound, and there will be a 50/50 raffle, door prizes and concessions. Entry into the show is free to exhibitors and spectators; donations will be accepted.

Proceeds benefit scholarships and veterans' needs.
