"When we first went under the arch, I thought I must be entering a special place," wrote Lorraine Blanchfield of West Lebanon, N.H. "I can see why [Ronald] Reagan said Dixon was his place to go back to." Blanchfield offers a positive review of Dixon in her accompanying letter to the editor.

I recently drove to Dixon from New Hampshire with a friend for the purpose of visiting his mother in the nursing home. I’d read much about the Dixon governmental scandal in the Boston Globe.

I’m writing to let those of you who live in Dixon know that you have a delightful community.

When we reached Dixon, it was like coming into New Hampshire. There were beautiful rolling hills, an amazing, large river, and your town center was like in a valley. Dixon is lucky to have been developed in such a picturesque location.

My town in New Hampshire is about 16,000, like Dixon, but Dixon seems three times as big. You have so much more culture and history.

I toured the Dixon Historical Museum in Ronald Reagan’s school building, and it’s quite a jewel. The riverfront is incredible, with beautiful gardens, a water fountain and musical events. We toured several upscale restaurants – I’d die to have such an upscale culinary selection in my town.

We saw your huge park, the Reagan Boyhood Home, the lovely bookstore, and majestic old theater in the middle of your town center. I really liked the arch and Peace Park.

When we first went under the arch, I thought I must be entering a special place. I can see why Reagan said Dixon was his place to go back to.

It also was quite interesting having all the pubs in your city, as in my town there are only four.

Finally, as an artist, I really liked all the businesses displaying art, including the downtown Next Picture Show Gallery. Dixon has to be a very appealing place for artists of all kinds.

So, the Boston Globe told all of New England about the big, multimillion-dollar scandal. It’s too bad it didn’t, instead, have a nice write-up about beautiful Dixon in the newspaper’s travel section.
