ROCK FALLS – Rock Falls Tourism has a new executive director.

Tim Wilson took the helm Monday, replacing Cathy Brunner, who held the job since 2009 and recently resigned to move to Arizona.

Wilson will oversee and promote the development of tourism and recreation-related opportunities by teaming up with local businesses and groups to strengthen the city’s economy. Rock Falls Tourism is funded through city motel and hotel tax revenue.

Wilson has a bachelor’s degree in business management from Upper Iowa University and a master’s degree in hospitality and tourism from the University of Wisconsin. He has a background in tourism and marketing.

A news release from Rock Falls Tourism said the group is taking a new direction.

Asked about the new direction, Pam Erby, Rock Falls Tourism’s board chairwoman, said the group would get the word out about the area on social media.

The agency’s board also hired Ben Swartz as tourism assistant, a new position. He will help the director with creative marketing responsibilities, website development, social media, distribution of local and regional tourism materials and information, and publicity of Rock Falls and surrounding areas.

Swartz has a bachelor’s degree in advertising communications from Bradley University and is pursuing his master’s degree in human resource management.
