Board makes appointments; OKs road projects

PRINCETON — The Bureau County Board has made several appointments to area boards and approved contracts for summer road projects.

Among other assignments, Barry Welbers and Perry Noble were appointed to the Bureau County Zoning Board of Appeals; and Dave Piper to the Bureau County Board of Review.

Transportation Committee Chairman Steve Sondgeroth also presented resolutions for projects totaling more than $440,000 at Tuesday's meeting.

The board approved a roughly $50,000 contract for a hot mix asphalt project in Fairfield Township from McDonald Trucking and Paving, and Advanced Asphalt of Princeton's bids for several township hot mix asphalt overlay contracts, including $66,478 for Bureau Township; $66,410 for Hall Township; $121,759 for Princeton Township, $69,515 for Macon Township; and $23,505 for Selby Township.

The board also awarded Martin and Co. Excavating the hot mix asphalt overlay projects for Berlin Township at $21,060, and Ohio Township at $24,146.

The average cost is $80,000 per mile for the overlay projects, Sondgeroth said.

The board also approved a $20,000 request from University of Illinois Extension for its 2014 fiscal year budget.
