Jereme Richmond pleaded not guilty Thursday to threatening his probation officer.

The former Sauk Valley Predator and Illinois Mr. Basketball could face up to 7 years in prison if found guilty of three counts of harassment of a witness.

Trickle dead at 71
in apparent suicide

Retired NASCAR driver Richard “Dick” Trickle died Thursday from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, police in Lincoln County, N.C., said. He was 71.

Trickle, who retired in 2002 after 24 years on the top NASCAR circuit, called authorities to tell them “there would be a dead body and it would be his,” according to the Lincoln County Communications Center.

Quenneville denies reports on Stalberg

Chicago Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville denied reports that he benched Viktor Stalberg for Game 1 of the Western Conference semifinals against the Detroit Red Wings because the winger questioned his lack of ice time on the power play.

During practices leading up to Game 1, Stalberg was a healthy scratch during the Hawks’ 4-1 victory Wednesday night.

Torres suspended for rest of series

San Jose Sharks forward Raffi Torres was suspended for the rest of his team’s Western Conference semifinal playoff series against the Kings for what the NHL judged was an illegal hit to the head of Kings center Jarret Stoll on Tuesday.

Rays place ace
Price on 15-day DL

The Tampa Bay Rays have put AL Cy Young Award winner David Price on the 15-day disabled list because of a strained left triceps.

This is the first time in Price’s career that he has been on the DL. The left-hander has struggled this season, going 1-4 with a 5.24 ERA in nine starts.

Knee forces Garrard to mull retirement

David Garrard says his surgically repaired left knee kept swelling up on him after workouts, and that forced him to realize he couldn’t compete for the Jets’ starting quarterback job.

Garrard said his decision to consider retirement was not because the Jets drafted Geno Smith.

Big Ten openers set for Rutgers, Maryland

Rutgers and Maryland have set their conference openers during their first Big Ten seasons in 2014.

The Scarlet Knights will host Penn State on Sept. 13. The Terrapins will travel to Indiana on Sept. 27.
