PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – Mark A. Dowd, 59, of Port Charlotte, Fla., formerly of Englewood, Fla., and Sterling, died Wednesday, May 15, 2013, after a short battle with cancer.
He was born Aug. 18, 1953, in Sterling, the son of LuVerne and Anna Mae (Cox) Dowd. He married the former Nancy Bauer in 1978. Mark worked as a conductor for the former Chicago and Northwestern Railroad in Sterling for 19 years before moving to Florida, where he then worked in the heating and cooling industry. He was a motorcycle and model railroading enthusiast, and loved his music.
Surviving are his wife, Nancy; his sons, Joshua (Jen) Dowd of Rotonda, Fla., and Jeremy (Karen) Dowd of Englewood; his daughter, Tiffany Oliver of Sarasota, Fla.; special friend and caregiver, Roxanne Buchanan; best friend and caregiver, Jerry (Lynn) Crouch; his sisters, Theresa (Ross) Johnson of Rock Falls and Cheryl Dowd of Tempe, Ariz.; his brothers, Steven (Vicki) Dowd of Rock Falls, Patrick (Karla) Dowd of Dixon, and John (Julie) Dowd of Rock Falls; his sisters-in-law, Donna Dowd, Linda Dowd, and Lori Dowd; six grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Donald, Kevin, Timothy, and Edward Dowd; and his son-in-law, Jon Oliver.
A celebration of his life will be at a later date in the Sterling-Rock Falls area. Private burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Sterling.
A memorial will be established.
