Former Boy Scout volunteer in prison for sex abuse

BELLEVILLE (AP) — A former Boy Scout volunteer from southwestern Illinois has begun serving a six-year prison sentence for sexually molesting boys in his family.

Fifty-five-year-old Jon Demers, of Collinsville, was convicted last month in St. Clair County Circuit Court of 12 counts of criminal sexual abuse of a child.

The Belleville News-Democrat reports (http://bit.ly/13BcUXr ) that Demers entered the Menard Correctional Center on Thursday to begin his prison term.

Demers was a Belleville Boy Scout troop committee member and merit badge counselor.

He was also a civilian employee of Scott Air Force Base.

The children Demers abused are relatives of his and are now between 11 and 17 years old.
