DIXON – Registration for the Dixon Public Library Summer Reading Program, “Visit Book Island,” is under way. Activities will be held weekly from June 3 through July 13, at the library, 221 S. Hennepin Ave.
The theme and programs for the week of June 3-8 are Fantasy:
Monday Family Day, 3 to 4 or 7 to 8 p.m. Dave Herzog’s Marionettes will present Cirque Fantastique. The audience will journey into a land of enchantment with Herzog and his large, shortstrung marionettes.
Wednesday drop-in craft day, 9:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Choose from fantasy stick puppets or velvet art posters.
Fantastic Fridays, 1 to 3 p.m., for ages 11-14 only. In this altered book workshop, kids will turn an old book into a work of art.
Students who have completed kindergarten through eighth grade may sing up for summer reading. Parents may register preschool children younger than 5.
Those who check out books during 4 of the first 5 weeks of the reading program may attend a pool party during the sixth week.
Request a “Fiction is Fun” reading log at the youth circulation desk when registering. Readers who complete their logs by the end of “Wrap-Up Week” may enter a drawing for one of the large, stuffed animals decorating the department. The drawing will be July 20.
Creative contests may be entered by picking up a form each Monday. The completed creatio should be turned in by 5 p.m. each Friday. Winners will be announced the following Monday, and first- and second-place prizes will be awarded for each age group. All other participants will be able to choose a prize from the third-place prize bin.
