Capitalists are truly the job creators

I must disagree with you, Mr. Humphrey, about your assertion that consumers who have money are the job creators [The Reader’s Voice, May 15].

There are two sides to the laws of supply and demand. Consumers do not provide the economy with any goods or services. They provide a demand.

I want antigravity boots. I have enough money. Sell me some antigravity boots.

Sorry, there is no such thing as antigravity boots. The demand may be there, but there is no supply.

I want cheap fuel and cars. Rockefeller and Ford provided me with both.

I want flat-screen TVs. We make those.

I want great picture quality. We have DVDs.

I want my Beta VCR and eight-track music player to have movies and music. They don’t make them anymore. I can’t get them.

I want good computer equipment. I can get it.

It is not you or I who create the many fine things we can enjoy. It is the capitalists and visionaries who create a supply to fill our needs.

Steve Jobs made us many fine products. He made his employees into millionaires.
