DIXON – A convicted Dixon pedophile, in prison since 2005, pleaded not guilty Wednesday to accusations that he had sex with a 6-year-old girl in 2003.

Edward L. Cummins, 59, now an inmate at Illinois River Correctional Center in Canton, is charged with predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, punishable by 6 to 30 years in prison.

The girl, now a teen, told police in 2011 that Cummins had sex with her at least once in 2003, when she was 6, at his home in the 500 block of Eels Avenue, Lt. Clay Whelan said.

A complaint was filed Feb. 22. The investigation took some time because of Cummins’ inmate status, Whelan said.

A preliminary hearing is set for May 15 in Lee County Court.

Cummins was convicted in 2005 of predatory criminal sexual assault in two cases involving children and was given two consecutive 8-year prison sentences.
