Steamers upset Rams

Fulton advances in 2A BV Regional; Storm clubbed by Panthers

Sixth-seeded Fulton knocked off third-seeded Riverdale 3-2 in the first round of the Class 2A Bureau Valley Regional on Monday at Port Byron.

Emma Wiemken had two hits and two RBIs for lead Fulton (7-11), which advances to face No. 2 Morrison at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in Manlius.

Katherine Wayne went the distance for the win, striking out five. She also had an RBI.

Erie-Prophetstown 15, Bureau Valley 3, 5 inn.: The fifth-seeded Panthers got their first regional win in 8 years in the first-round matchup, thumping the fourth-seeded Storm in Manlius.

The Panthers (14-12) advance to face top-seeded Alleman at 4:30 p.m. today in Manlius.

Class 2A Byron Regional

Forreston-Polo 6, West Carroll 3: Alex Sterenberg's three-run homer in the first inning propelled the fourth-seeded Cardinals past the fifth-seeded Thunder in the regional quarterfinal at German Valley.

Becca Wakenight had two RBIs for the Cardinals, who advance to meet top-seeded Stillman Valley today at 4:30 at Byron.

West Carroll (9-16) got two hits and an RBI from Morgan Ashby.

Class 1A Aquin Regional

Aquin 8, Eastland 2: Ashley Nepean took the loss for the Cougars in a season-ending loss to the Bulldogs in Freeport.

Aquin now gets a shot at top-seeded Milledgeville today.

Regular season

Rock Island 3, Dixon 0: Erin Smith allowed just two hits in six innings, but the Duchesses were unable to come up with any offense in a road loss to the Rocks.

Dixon (9-13) had just five hits, including two from Rachel Musser.
