DIXON – Granny Rose Animal Shelter is offering senior citizens some free feline companionship.
“Seniors for Seniors” is a new program that pairs cats at least 10 years old – just middle-aged by today’s standards – with people 65 and older who would enjoy owning a cat. The adoption fee will be waived.
The cats are spayed, neutered and up to date on all their shots.
One of the most important aspects of the program: If at any point and for any reason a person can no longer care for the cat, Granny Rose will take it back, no questions asked, said Mark Knie, shelter board president.
No one should worry about what might happen to the cat should a living arrangement or medical situation change, Knie said.
“Our goal is to simply pair up two ‘seniors’ that would mutually benefit from having each other in their lives,” he said.
Granny Rose is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at 613 River Lane.
