STERLING – Residents are invited to drop off bulk and other kinds of trash at the city’s annual Clean and Green event, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Public Works building at Avenue L and LeFevre Road.
Items that will be accepted include bulk waste such as bikes; dried paint; furniture; mattresses; lawn equipment; tires (a maximum of four); appliances; metal/tin; used motor oil; car batteries; and brush.
Self Help Enterprises also will be on hand to take electronics items such as TVs, computer equipment and cellphones.
Household trash; cleaning supplies, explosives; items containing mercury, such as fluorescent bulbs and electronics; lawn or pool chemicals; smoke detectors; spray paint cans; and any hazardous materials will not be accepted.
Only city residents can participate; a current photo ID will be required.
In addition, volunteers are needed from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday to help clean up the downtown and for planting. Call 815-632-6621 to sign up or for more information.
