Michael W. ‘Mack’ Martin

PRINCETON – Michael Wade “Mack” Martin, 64, of Princeton, passed away Saturday, May 11, 2013, in a household accident at his daughter’s home in North Pekin.

He was born June 7, 1948, in Beebe, Ark., to John M. and Wada D. (Blasingame) Martin. He graduated in 1966 from Monette High School in Arkansas. Later in life, he attended college for his commercial driver’s license and heating, ventilation and air conditioning. His family moved to the Rock Falls area after he graduated. He worked at Northwestern Steel and Wire Co. before he joined the Army. He served for 2 years, mainly in Germany as a mechanic. He then worked at LTV Steel for 34 years, and worked for the Illinois State Unemployment Office. He currently was working at the state Department of Transportation in the Princeton barn. He married Marjorie Miller on June 14, 1968, at Southern Baptist Church in Rock Falls. He volunteered for an ambulance service for 15 years. Mike also was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a lifelong Baptist, and attended various churches during his life.  

Mike is survived by his wife of nearly 45 years, Marjorie Martin, of Princeton. Also surviving are one daughter, Michelle Burbridge of North Pekin; and one granddaughter, Jade. Surviving as well are four brothers: Burnis (Venedia) Martin of Monette, Ark., Troy (Sue) Martin of Jonesboro, Ark., John D. (Kaye) Martin of Hope, Ark., and Mark (Mary) Martin of Rock Falls; two sisters, Bea (J.W.) Smithee of Rock Falls and Phyllis Flier of Pekin; and one sister-in-law, Kay Martin of Leesburg, Ala. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Patricia Bridges; one brother, Larry Martin; and two nephews, Tony and Marty Smithee.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Norberg Memorial Home in Princeton.The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the memorial home, with the Rev. Tim Batchelor officiating. Burial will be Monday at Elm Lawn Memorial Park in Princeton.
