Homeless man accused of kidnapping boy, 10

EAST PEORIA (AP) — A man described by authorities as homeless and a sex offender is accused of restraining a 10-year-old boy in central Illinois before witnesses got police to intervene.

The (Peoria) Journal Star ( reports that 52-year-old Teddy Meyer is charged with aggravated kidnapping.

Police say Meyer is accused of luring and restraining the boy behind the East Peoria Post Office's sorting station Friday afternoon before Meyer was arrested after employees there became involved.

The newspaper says Meyer also is charged with being a sex offender within 500 feet of school, as well as with unlawful use of a weapon.

Police say Meyer is homeless and living under an Interstate 74 overpass near a junior high school.

It's not immediately clear if he has an attorney.
