STERLING – A 15-year-old Chadwick boy remained in serious condition at a Rockford hospital Monday after being struck by a train on the railroad bridge over Elkhorn Creek around 7 p.m. Friday.

Chance Casares was moved out of intensive care at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center, Milledgeville Police Chief James Haag said Monday. A nursing supervisor said he remained in serious condition.

He and two other juveniles were taking a shortcut from the creek back into Milledgeville when he was hit by the westbound train and rolled down a 50-foot embankment, Haag said.
