Predators suffer third straight loss

A 12-point second quarter was too much for the Sauk Valley Predators to overcome Saturday in a 110-86 road loss to the Bloomington Flex.

The Flex (9-3) led 48-38 heading into halftime, then put the game away with a 29-23 fourth-quarter scoring edge. Josiah Whitehead’s 20 points and six rebounds paced the Flex, who passed the Preds for second place in the Central Division.

Joe Wolfinger led Sauk Valley (9-4) with 18 points and 12 rebounds. The Predators sit one game behind the division-leading Kankakee County Soldiers, and a half-game behind the Flex.

Serena routs Maria, retains top ranking

World number one Serena Williams racked up the 50th title of her illustrious 18-year career when she thumped Maria Sharapova 6-1, 6-4 to defend her Madrid Open crown on Sunday.

Williams’ victory prevented Sharapova from leapfrogging her to the top of the rankings.

Thibodeau finded for comments on officials

The NBA fined Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau $35,000 for comments on officiating in the second-round series against the Miami Heat.

Thibodeau consistently has said the Bulls “aren’t going to get calls” in the series and cryptically added two comments after Friday’s Game 3.

Warriors even series with Spurs at 2

Stephen Curry scored 22 on an injured left ankle, Harrison Barnes had 26 points and 10 rebounds, and Golden State rallied past San Antonio 97-87 in overtime to even the Western Conference semifinal at two games apiece.

Jarrett Jack added 24 points in reserve and helped the Warriors overcome an eight-point deficit in the final 5 minutes of regulation.

Busch wins fifth Nationwide race

Kyle Busch took the lead from Joey Logano 18 laps from the end to win his fifth Nationwide race this season and second in three years at Darlington Raceway on Friday night.

Busch started from the pole and was the strongest car throughout. He led for 107 of the 147 laps and finished about a second in front of Elliott Sadler.

Wigan stuns Man City in FA Cup final

Wigan won the FA Cup for the first time in its 81-year history by beating Manchester City 1-0 in London on Saturday in one of the biggest final upsets the tournament has seen.

Ben Watson headed in the winner in the 90th minute off Shaun Maloney’s corner.

Boogaard family files suit against league

The family of the late Derek Boogaard reportedly filed a wrongful-death lawsuit against the National Hockey League on Friday.

Boogaard was found dead of an accidental overdose of prescription painkillers and alcohol on May 13, 2011. He was 28.
