OREGON – Dorothy J. Scheffler, 83, of Oregon, died Saturday, May 11, 2013, at Pinecrest Manor in Mount Morris.

Dorothy was born Apr. 1, 1930, in Mount Morris, the daughter of Irvin and Gladys (Shrader) Zumdahl. She graduated from Mount Morris High School in 1948. Dorothy married Fred A. Scheffler on Aug. 22, 1948, in Mount Morris. He preceded her in death Oct. 22, 1996. She worked for many years as a store clerk in Mount Morris and for Merlin’s Flowers in Oregon and farmed alongside her husband in rural Oregon. Dorothy was an involved member of the Red Hat Society and The Caring and Sharing Group of Oregon. She also was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Mount Morris. She enjoyed crafting, making jewelry, Longaberger trips and trips to Shipshewana, Ind.

Survivors include two daughters, Cheryl (David) Point of Oregon and Nancy (Gaylord) Winterberg of Winnebago; two sisters, Lois Scheffler of Mount Morris and Joyce (Lorin) Gatz of Polo; seven grandchildren, Danette (Kirk) Kettwich of Oregon, Amy (Todd) Hicks of Amboy, Ryan (Jodi) Point of Oregon, Ranae (Tom) Stone Jr. of Oregon, Jennifer (Kevin) Daly of Gurnee, Matthew Fritz of Chana, and Alisa (Ted) Pollock of Davis Junction; 19 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She also was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Carol Carr.

Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home in Oregon. The funeral is at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mount Morris, with the Rev. Marilyn Hanson, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery in Oregon.

A memorial fund has been established.
