MILLEDGEVILLE – A 15-year-old boy was in serious condition at a Rockford hospital Sunday after he was struck by a train on the railroad bridge over Elkhorn Creek on Friday night.

Police responded at 7:15 p.m. to the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway bridge over the creek on the eastern edge of Milledgeville for a train vs. pedestrian accident, according to a news release from the Milledgeville Police Department.

They found Chance Casares of Chadwick in the right-of-way with multiple injuries, the release said. He was taken to CGH Medical Center in Sterling, then to OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford.

Casares and two other juveniles were walking on the bridge over the creek; Casares was struck by the westbound train, while the other two, whose names were not released, were not injured, the release said.

Neither the Milledgeville Police Department nor the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department had further information Sunday evening.
