Oregon junior qualifies for state in four events

OREGON – Cydney Long qualified for state in all four of her events, highlighting Oregon's eight state qualifications at the Class 1A Oregon Sectional girls track meet Friday at Oregon High School.

Long won the 100 hurdles (16.30) and 200 (27.04). She also teamed with Devyn Absher, Whitney Long and Emylyn Wright to win the 400 relay (51.13). The same foursome finished third but qualified on time in the 800 relay (1:50.05).

Absher and Wright advanced in a third relay, the 1,600, along with teammates Sam Judge and Mackenzie Skoumal, as the quartet took second at 4:14.49.

The Hawks had three field-event state qualifiers: Shannon Cullen, who won the shot put (38-6); Sarah Lauer, who won the triple jump (33-3 1/2); and Ryan Starkey, who took second in the pole vault (8-6).

Polo-Forreston's Mykil Baker qualified in the discus (first place, 113-2) and shot put (second place, 34-4).

West Carroll's Kaylee Vos advanced to state in the triple jump (second place, 32-2) and high jump (third place, 5-2).

Team-wise, Oregon (118 points) finished second to Byron (155). Polo-Forreston finished fourth (36), West Carroll seventh (31) and Milledgeville-Eastland eighth (27) in the 15-team field.
