Girls roundup: Duchesses rally twice to sweep Harvard

The Dixon softball team gave Harvard an education in rallies during a doubleheader sweep Saturday on the road.

Beccah Jones knocked in five runs in total, two of them in a 7-5 victory in Game 1, in which the Duchesses scored two runs in the top of the eighth. Erin Smith was the winning pitcher.

Dixon then scored five runs in the top of the seventh to pull out a 9-6 win in the nightcap. Jones had three RBIs, and was also the winning pitcher.

Kaneland 5, Sterling 4: In Sterling, Darien
Bardoner doubled twice and drove in two runs, but it wasn’t enough for the Warriors to avoid their second loss of the season.

Stephanie Kester took the loss, allowing 10 hits and a walk and striking out five.

Fillies rule at Lisle: Morrison claimed top honors at the Lisle Invitational with three victories.

The Fillies started with a 9-0 win against Lisle on Friday. Allie Wiersema went the distance and struck out five batters. Jessica Wieneke drove in three runs, Allie Renkes knocked in two, and Kaitlyn Finneran added three singles.

On Saturday, Morrison opened with a 6-0 win over Dakota. Lauren Pannier struck out five batters in going the distance. Chelsea Eads hit a home run.

In the title game, the Fillies posted a 6-4 win against Immaculate Conception. Finneran doubled, singled twice and drove in a run, and Pannier, Alyssa Workman and Renkes each had two hits. Wiersema was the winning pitcher.

Hawks drop two: Oregon made the long trip to Richmond-Burton and dropped a pair of games to the Rockets, 10-0 in five innings, then 8-3.
