ROCK FALLS – Susie Welch of Sterling, a homebuyer counselor with Tri-County Opportunities Council, received a Homebuyer Assistance Award from the state Housing Development Authority.

Welch was recognized April 24 at the Illinois Governor’s Conference on Affordable Housing in Chicago.

She was honored for her work to increase housing efforts through the Home Modification, Rental Housing Support, Illinois Hardest Hit, and Community Housing Development Organization programs at TCOC.

In 8 years, Welch has not had a client that has completed counseling go through foreclosure.

She also worked with one client for 6 years to reach their goal of buying a house, and took a homeless person into her home until housing was available.
