Follow Lee zoning board’s sound guidance

Published: Thursday, May 16, 2013 1:15 a.m. CST

This is in response to the Lee County Board chairman, Mr. Rick Ketchum, stating that he plans to vote against the zoning board’s’ decision regarding the Mainstream wind installation.

Apparently, Mr. Ketchum is smarter and more informed about the effects that another industrial wind installation would have on the citizens of Lee County, than the members of the zoning board. How could this be?

Mr. Ketchum attended only one or two of the 28 zoning board meetings regarding this wind project. He did not hear all the testimony and evidence presented, but the zoning board members did. So, Mr. Ketchum, why do you intend to vote against the zoning board recommendation? Do you have some information the zoning board members didn’t have?

If so, please share it with the residents of Lee County. If not, please follow the recommendation of the zoning board, whose members have worked long and hard over the past 10 months to learn as much as possible before coming to a well-informed decision.

The decision will impact generations of Lee County residents for decades to come.

Please follow the sound recommendation of the zoning board and do what is in the best interest of the citizens of our county. In other words, do what we elected you to do.

Rock Falls is considering a ban on leaf burning. Should the city finally take that step?
Yes. Sterling and Dixon have had bans for years. It’s time for Rock Falls to impose a ban.
No. It would be too great a burden for homeowners to dispose of fallen leaves in other ways.
