CHARLES TOWN, W. Va. – Bob O’Connor of Charles Town recently completed his ninth book, “Countdown to West Virginia Statehood,” published by Infinity Publishing in West Conshohocken, Pa.
O’Connor is a 1963 graduate of Dixon High School. He is the son of the late Charles and Wilhelmina O’Connor of Dixon. Bob was a paper carrier for the Dixon Telegraph with his siblings along North Galena Avenue.
“Countdown” chronicles the struggles of the residents of western Virginia to statehood on June 20, 1863.
The author has been a finalist four times in national book awards.
O’Connor spoke about his books more than 150 times in 17 states during the past 2 years.
His other books are “A House Divided Against Itself”; “The Perfect Steel Trap Harpers Ferry 1859”; “The Virginian Who Might Have Saved Lincoln”; “The U.S. Colored Troops at Andersonville Prison”; “The Centennial History of Ranson, West Virginia”; “The Life of Abraham Lincoln as President”; “Catesby: Eyewitness to the Civil War”; and “The Return of Catesby.”
