Warriors win in rout

Dixon falls on road; Rockets handle Hawks

Stephanie Kester tossed three shutout innings and helped her own cause with two doubles and three runs batted in as the Sterling softball team routed visiting Streator 14-0 on Tuesday.

Sterling (16-1, 7-1 Northern Illinois Big 12 West) also got three RBIs from Priscilla Aponte and two from Nadia Trujillo. The Golden Warriors scored four runs in the first inning, then put the game away with 10 in the second.

Ottawa 8, Dixon 1: The Duchesses led 1-0 after Jessica VanOosten’s RBI single in the top of the second, but the Pirates scored twice in the bottom of the inning to take the lead for good at home.

Brooke Bailey doubled and scored the run for Dixon (7-11, 1-7 NIB-12 West). Erin Smith allowed six runs – three earned – and seven hits in four innings.

Lindsey Greene’s three-run homer in the fourth put the game away for Ottawa (6-7, 2-6). Hilary Hon went the distance for the win, striking out five in a four-hitter.

Rock Falls 8, Oregon 4: Morgan Mammosser tripled, singled twice and drove in three runs as the Rockets topped the Hawks at Oregon Park West.

Linsey Brown added two singles and two RBIs for Rock Falls (20-3, 9-1 Big Northern West), while Julie Dodd tripled, singled and drove in one run. Michaela Ward (10-2) was the winning pitcher.

Hope Smith had a big day for Oregon with four hits, two of which were doubles, and three RBIs. Bree Tourtillott added two base hits. Abby Baker took the loss.

Forreston-Polo 9, Durand-Pec 0: Jozi Grobe struck out six in a six-hit shutout as the Cardinals won an NUIC East game in German Valley.

Olivia Peterson went 4-for-4 with a double and three singles, and Abby Peterson was 3-for-3 with two doubles and a single. Both girls drove in runs for Forreston-Polo (10-8).

Cougars sweep Stockton: Ashley Nepean won both ends of a doubleheader as Eastland won a pair of games at Stockton, 13-1 and 12-1. Both games went five innings.

Nepean struck out 16 batters in the two games. Alex Moutrey rapped out four hits, while Mackenzie Doubler, Maddie Parker, Nepean and Delanie Giedd added three each.

Geneseo 8, Sterling 1: Allie Johnson scored off a Rosa Sanchez assist for the Golden Warriors’ lone goal as Sterling (7-10-2, 3-3-1) lost a NIB-12 West match on Senior Night at Roscoe Eades Stadium.
