Amboy camp is
late-May, early-June

The Amboy Clippers’ 9-day girls basketball camp is May 28-31 and June 3-7.

The camp is for kids in fourth through ninth grade as of August. Registration is $40. For more information, call Mike McCracken at 815-857-2149.


QB camp is next month in Freeport

Steve Gregory’s Quarterback Farm will be held June 7-8 at Freeport High School.

The quarterbacks and wide receiver camp is June 7 from 6-9 p.m. and June 8 from 8:30 a.m.-noon. Registration is $100 by May 31 and $125 after. The junior high camp is 1:30-4 p.m. June 8.

Six locals to sign
letters of intent

Two Dixon seniors and four Newman seniors have decided where they will attend college and play football.

Dixon’s Justin White and Jacob Tavitas will both attend the University of Wisconsin-Stout.

Newman’s Luke LeMay, Brian Bahrs, Maison Bittner and Chris Breed will all sign letters of intent today to attend St. Ambrose University, William Penn University, Benedictine University and Coe College, respectively.


Jays’ Happ released from hospital

Toronto Blue Jays left-hander and Spring Valley native J.A. Happ was released from a Tampa-area hospital Wednesday morning after he was hit in the head with a line drive Tuesday night against the Tampa Bay Rays at
Tropicana Field.

Reportedly, Happ was in good spirits. His injuries were described as a contusion and laceration to his left ear. The Jays placed him on the 15-day DL.


Long to miss most of offseason program

Bears first-round draft pick Kyle Long will not take part in organized team activities that begin Monday and the mandatory veteran minicamp in June because of the class schedule at Oregon, where Long played in the fall.

He can take part in rookie minicamp this weekend.

Former Lion Young arrested twice

Former Detroit Lions wide receiver Titus Young was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, then arrested again the same day for trying to take his car from a tow yard.


Teen who punched ref charged with homicide

A Utah teen accused of punching a soccer referee who later died was charged with homicide by assault, a count issued when an attack unintentionally causes death.

The 17-year-old has been in juvenile detention
since April 27, when the incident occurred at a recreational-league
soccer match in a Salt Lake City suburb.
