Dukes suffer road loss

Warriors fall in Ottawa; Dixon tennis wins at Morris

Riley Mehrens had two singles and drove in a run for Dixon in a 4-3 loss at Streator on Tuesday.

Cal Jarrett and Jared Frey also drove in runs for the Dukes (7-18, 3-10 Northern Illinois Big 12 West). Dan Pultorak (3-4) took the loss, allowing two earned runs, five hits and six walks in five innings. He struck out five batters.

Ottawa 9, Sterling 1: Brandon Dennis went the distance for the Golden Warriors, allowing nine runs and 10 hits against the powerful Pirates (16-2, 10-0 NIB-12 West) in Ottawa.

Dennis also had two hits for Sterling (10-15, 4-9).

Polo-Forreston 10, Durand-Pecatonica 0, 5 inn: Sam Vincer went 2-for-2 with three runs batted in to lead the Cardinals to an easy win in Forreston.

Nick Ludwig added a pair of RBIs for Polo-Forreston (11-8, 8-4 NUIC West). Ethan Groom was the winning pitcher.

Eastland 12, East Dubuque 7: Zach Randecker pitched into the sixth inning, and reliever Austin Young closed things out as the Cougars (10-5, 6-3) won an NUIC West game on the road.

Tennis

Dixon 4, Morris 1: Matthew Kerr and Joey Hammitt swept the singles matches, and the Dukes won a pair of doubles contests in a NIB-12 road win.

Kurt Gale and Romulo Lobo teamed up for a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 1 doubles, while Thomas Clemens and Michael Barth won  6-1, 6-4 at No. 3 doubles for Dixon (2-8, 2-7). Hammitt was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at No. 1 singles, and Kerr won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 singles.
