PEORIA (AP) — Authorities in Peoria have identified a body found inside an SUV recovered from the Illinois River as that of a man who had been missing since Friday night.

Peoria County Coroner Johnna Ingersoll identified the man as 33-year-old Clarence Hanson.

Hanson's family had been keeping an emotional vigil on the banks of the river for days as authorities struggled to reach the vehicle in waters that were fast-flowing as a result of recent flooding.

Conditions were too dangerous for divers. But on Tuesday, crews were able to hook the vehicle and tow it.

The (Peoria) Journal Star reports (http://bit.ly/YDDmjo ) that there were no signs of trauma to the body.

Ingersoll said the man had one leg through the rear passenger window, indicating he might have been trying to escape.
