Amboy homicide case: Agreement on trial evidence in the works
DIXON – Attorneys on both sides are working on an agreement on what evidence and what statements made by an Amboy man accused of murder will be admitted at his trial, they said Wednesday.
Matthew Welling, 32, is charged with five counts of first-degree murder and two counts of home invasion. Police say he pushed his way into the Amboy home of Delmar Leroy Daniels, 79, on July 18 and killed him during a struggle.
When the attorneys have reached an agreement, Judge Ronald Jacobson will be asked to sign off on it, Lee County Public Defender Bob Thompson said.
A hearing will not be needed, but the agreement will be public record.
Welling’s next pretrial conference is May 16. He is in Lee County Jail on $2 million bond.
