668 lawyers to be admitted to Ill. bar

SPRINGFIELD (AP) — Hundreds of new attorneys beginning Thursday can practice law in Illinois. Justices of the Illinois Supreme Court will administer the oath at five locations.

The 668 candidates passed the Illinois state bar examination, an ethics exam, and received approval from the court's Committee on Character and Fitness.

Nearly 470 lawyers will be admitted to the bar during a ceremony at the Arie Crown Theatre in Chicago. Justice Charles Freeman will preside at the First Judicial District ceremony along with Justices Anne Burke and Mary Jane Theis.

Chief Justice Thomas Kilbride will preside over the third district ceremony in Ottawa.

Justice Robert Thomas will oversee the second district event in Elgin.

Justice Rita Garman will head the fourth district event in Springfield and Justice Lloyd Karmeier will oversee the Collinsville ceremony.
